Most of the photography of Mariposa refers to its past as a mining camp. The preservation of it’s traditions are important to the understanding of it’s founding by Palmer Cook and Company, agents for Col. John C. and Jessie Fremont. But over the past few years, new architectural examples have been added to reflect the past and communicate that past to the future.
Around 1965 it was decided by a committee of citizens, of which I am the only survivor, that we must, in our effort to move into the 21st Century, give homage to our past. Now after almost 45 years it is time to examine the preservation of our town as well as the faithful assimilation of it’s past. As time progresses I will introduce new and old images of Mariposa to define that ideal.
